An Alabama man was admitted to a hospital for a circumcision, yet somehow ended up having his penis removed.

According to the Associated Press, Johnny Lee Banks, Jr. and wife Zelda Banks filed a medical malpractice lawsuit against Birmingham, Ala.'s Princeton Baptist Medical Center on Tuesday. The suit alleges that after Banks went to the hospital for the circumcision last month, he awoke to the horror of his entire penis missing.

Furthermore, the suit claims that the procedure—which Banks maintains that he did not consent to—has left him with "extreme pain," and caused a great deal of distress for his wife.

The Associated Press notes that a spokeswoman for the hospital said the Banks' claims "lack merit," though it will be interesting to see how this situation plays out, should it go to court. Banks and his wife are seeking an unspecified amount of damages.
