Comedian Lil Duval went on The Breakfast Club on Friday morning, and for some reason felt that was the best platform to make some controversial comments about transgender people. It all started when hosts Charlamagne Tha God, Angela Yee, and DJ Envy start talking about the recent Usher lawsuit rumors. Somehow, that conversation leads into President Trump’s recent Twitter announcement banning transgender people from the U.S. military, a bizarre announcement that took the nation—including the military—by surprise. That’s when Lil Duval implied that if he found out he was with a trans woman, she would have to “die.” The discussion gets predictably worse from than point forward. The conversation in question starts at around the 6:30 mark in the above video, and goes until around 9:00.

why are [black] men so obsessed with being ignorant? idegaf about political correctness, but it's this fixation on this narrative.
i truly wonder if these fools really believe what they say b/c this performance of ignorance here troubles me. black men do better!

People on Twitter were quick to call the comedian out on his hurtful and potentially dangerous comments, sending his name straight to Twitter’s list of trending topics. Most focused on the fact that transphobic comments and “jokes” like this perpetuate a cycle of normalizing transphobic behavior, which not only doesn’t help transgender people feel more comfortable in their skin but is also a dangerous mindset when transgender people are routinely targeted as victims of hate crimes. Many also highlighted the biting irony of the fact that Janet Mock, a transgender activist, was a guest on the show just last week.

I also have no idea how Lil Duval gets invited anywhere. His only thing is being an ass
Maybe not joke about murdering trans women or laugh at such jokes especially if a trans woman was just on the show.
And, Lil' Duval made a comment that actually happens. MANY trans women are killed - highest death rate per population. And we joke?

Laverne Cox, the Emmy-nominated actress and trans activist, took to Twitter to air out her frustrations with the conversation.

I think what's also so upsetting for me is @janetmock was on that show last week with so much love brilliance and trans 101 education and
A week later this happens. #translivesmatter
Some folks think it's ok to joke about wanting to kill us. We have free speech but that speech has consequences and trans folks are
Experiencing the negative consequences with our lives. It hurts my spirit cause this isn't funny. Our lives matter. Trans murder isn't a

But no matter how much negative noise his comments created on social media, Lil Duval didn’t seem too bothered or interested in learning from his critiques. He’s been responding on Twitter, but the “shrug” emoji was the extent of his response.

I heard the transgender niggaz mad at me 🤷‍♂️
I wish I had something to sell right now 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️
Y'all not finna slander Lil Duval on this lovely Sunday morning like he didn't give us one of the most iconic moments in stand up history.
