In a move that should pretty much come as a surprise to everyone, Marvel Studios has hired Community producers Joe and Anthony Russo to direct Captain America 2, according to Variety. A couple months back, we revealed a shortlist of directors circling the project, and while the Russo Brothers were on there, we didn't expect them to actually land the gig.
We're not sure what the brothers did to win Marvel over, but it's pretty safe to say that this isn't a choice that will go without controversy. The duo's only other feature-length films are Welcome to Collinwood and You, Me and Dupree, so it's not like their track record helped land them the job. However, they might have impressed the studio with some interesting ideas, and , at the very least, they probably come pretty cheap compared to other blockbuster directors on the market.
Captain America 2 will hit theaters on April 4, 2014.
