Brad Bird Confirms That He Won't Be Directing The New "Star Wars" Movie

He's moving on to do something original.

None

Ever since the new Star Wars trilogy was announced, fans everywhere have been suggesting a countless number of directors to handle the franchise. And one of the names that has been consistently tossed around on numerous blogs and websites is Brad Bird. After cutting his teeth as a director on animated properties like The Simpsons, The Iron Giant, and The Incredibles, he impressed many with his live-action debut, Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol.

His ability to handle action and an ensemble cast, as well as his relationship with Disney, made him an obvious choice for Star Wars. Unfortunately, Bird recently took to Twitter to vehemently deny this would ever happen.

“@rsavenell: You are on people's lists as top choice for Star Wars, yet haven't confirmed. Please end this tease!”Not doing Star Wars.

It seems like more directors are eager to take their names off the Star Wars list than to put them on. And with a decision likely to happen in the next few months, we're just hoping that Disney can still lure a true talent to the job. Fans of Bird can look forward to his original sci-fi project that is in the works, titled 1952. It might be a nice change of pace from all of the franchise regurgitation that Hollywood is forcing upon us.
