There isn't a force more powerful in Hollywood at the moment than childhood nostalgia. It's the reason that we are experiencing big screen versions of The Smurfs, Transformers, GI Joe, and countless other properties from the '80s. And now, even Pee-Wee Herman is getting ready for a comeback, according to Coming Soon.
At the Tron: Uprising press junket, Paul Reubens, aka the original Pee-Wee Herman, gave an update on the long-rumored big screen revival of the classic character, which will be produced by Judd Apatow.
"That's any minute, supposedly," he said. "...It's going great. We have a meeting this coming week. We just did a very quick little rewrite on it. As far as I know it's getting shot very soon."
So there you have it. Before long, Reubens will be back in his grey tux and red bow-tie screaming at the top of his lungs to the amusement of kids everywhere. Well that's the plan anyway. It remains to be seen whether or not the current generation of children will still relate to Herman like the kids of the '80s did.
