Barack Obama delivered a powerful eulogy today at the funeral for Reverend Clementa Pinckney, one of the nine people killed in the Charleston church shooting. "We are here today to remember a man of God who lived by faith," the president said. "Blinded by hatred, the alleged killer could not see the grace surrounding Reverend Pinckney and that Bible Study group. Blinded by hatred, he failed to comprehend what Reverend Pinckney so well understood—the power of God’s grace."
He also touched on the Confederate flag, which is finally facing widespread opposition from politicians, businesses, and citizens alike.
For too long were were blind to the pain that the confederate flag stirred in our citizens. It's true a flag did not cause these murders. But the flag was a reminder of oppression. By taking down that flag, we express God's grace.
