Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) is perhaps the most beloved character on The Walking Dead. He is an all-around badass, lighting up zombies with his crossbow and causing ladies like Carol and Beth to swoon. As of yet, though, he has yet to reciprocate any of those romantic feelings.
Fans have begun speculating that the reason for this lack of action is because Dixon is, in fact, gay. A fan asked creator Robert Kirkman in a letter whether they had considered that, and Kirkman issued the following response:
“All I can say is that it’s been discussed. We have very specific ideas about Daryl’s sexuality (or the seeming lack thereof), and if there’s ever a quiet period in the show where he’s not consistently distracted by crossbowing…we’ll tackle it in the show.”
So that’s sort of something? At least there is a plan in mind, unlike many other shows.
And Kirkman wants us to know that “For the record, [AMC] absolutely would” be fine with Daryl being gay, if that is the route they choose to go. Not that you'd expect anything else, but good to know.
