Chris Columbus hit it big very early in his career, as Steven Spielberg bought his script for Gremlins and then brought him in to help develop The Goonies. He then went on to make a name for himself as a director, helming Home Alone, Mrs. Doubtfire, and the first two Harry Potter films.

And now, he may be circling back to the two films that started it all.

The Tracking Board claims that Columbus has inked a deal to return to both movies when they are rebooted in the near future. Recapturing old magic can be a bit of a dicey proposition, and Columbus would be serving only as a producer on these films rather than as a director or writer.

However, it’s always good to have the mastermind behind Gizmo and Chunk on your movie crew.
