Spike Lee's 'Chiraq' Will Be a Musical Comedy [UPDATED]

Lee tackles gang violence for his next film.

Spike Lee’s next joint, Chiraq, for Amazon, set to star Chicago natives Kanye West, Common, and Jeremy Piven, has just added some cast members. And we now know Chiraq’s plot.

Academy Award winner Jennifer Hudson and John Cusack join a cast that also includes longtime Lee collaborator, Samuel L. Jackson.

As for the plot, it’s based on Aristophanes’ classic comedic Greek play Lysistrata, which sees the women of Greece holding off on sex in an effort to get the men of Greece to end the Peloponnesian War. For Lee’s film, he will focus on a woman trying to end gang warfare in Chitown.
