A funny thing happened during Apple's Q2 earnings conference call yesterday. The company's new CEO, Tim Cook, did something very... Jobsian. When asked by Sanford Bernstein analyst Toni Sacconaghi whether Apple would come out with a tablet-laptop-hybrid akin to ones made by PC makers Lenovo and ASUS, Cook replied with, "anything can be forced to converge. But products about trade-offs." He went on to say that when you being to cram too many things together "you begin to make tradeoffs where you what you have left at the end of the day doesn't please anyone." But the funniest and more memorable part of the call was when he continued with this awesome quip: "You can merge a toaster and a refrigerator, but that's probably not going to be pleasing anyone."
All of that would you make you believe that Apple is going to continue innovating with its MacBook Air and iPad product lines. In fact, Cook even said the company planned to do the very same. However, if you've followed Apple for long enough you know that just because an exec (usually named Steve Jobs) said something wasn't going to happen, doesn't meant it's really not going to happen. We took a look at all the things Apple vowed never to make and checked if it stuck to its word.
