A group of criminals in South Africa, who suck at their jobs, recently kidnapped a man after hijacking his car. They suck because they left him with his cell phone.
At some point after being stuffed in the trunk of his own car by the kidnappers, the victim decided to text his girlfriend for help, because he could do that. According to Ars Technica, he didn’t immediately alert the cops because South African police are corrupt and evil. They used to be racist, too, back when apartheid was still around (Trifecta!).
Lynn Peters, the victim’s girlfriend, then immediately tweeted, “Be on the look for DSS041GP my boyufriend has just been hijacked and is in the boot please RT.” Ignoring the fact that South Africans call trunks “boots,” one of Peters’ 96 Twitter followers retweeted her and eventually, some dude named @pigspotter saw it. As his name might indicate, he tracks police (police road blocks, to be exact), so he alerted private security forces and police stopped the car at a roadblock 150 miles from the initial abduction. The man’s now safe thanks to Twitter and stupid criminals.
