Though LinkedIn has yet to confirm the news, European security firms are reporting that Russian hackers have compromised 6.5 million accounts out of LinkedIn’s 150 million total users. Luckily, the passwords are encrypted, so the hackers have only cracked 300,000 passwords thus far, but who knows what pace they’re moving at.
It’s a spectacularly bad day for LinkedIn. The hack comes on the heels of claims that LinkedIn has been stealing private user data via its iOS app, collecting meeting notes and calendar details in plain text.
Stock prices should plummet any minute now.
