It appears that a group of overzealous zombie fans were taking their roles too seriously at the annual ZombieWalk outside Comic Con in San Diego on Saturday.

Deadline reports that a woman was seriously injured after a group of costumed zombies swarmed a family's car and smashed the windshield, causing the 48-year-old dad to drive through the crowd, striking one woman.

Some people in the crowd reportedly chased the car on foot as it drove off until the driver found a police officer and stopped.

The 64-year-old woman who was struck by the car was taken to the hospital with what were described as serious, but not life-threatening injuries, which might include a broken arm.

San Diego police later said the entire family in the car, which included two small children, are deaf and were scared.

There was no word yet on whether anyone was being charged with a crime in the incident.

The ZombieWalk is not an official Comic Con event, but has been happening alongside the convention for several years, drawing hundreds of people to dress as the undead and parade through the streets of San Diego.
