Air travel can be an stressful part of anyone's day when you consider delayed flights, lost baggage and potentially crazy passengers. One thing it shouldn't be though is downright terrifying. On Monday, the passengers of American Airlines flight 2293 had to check that box, as they experienced violent turbulence when the interior of the plane' cabin began to rip open in mid-air.

While on a routine trip to Dallas from San Francisco, passengers began to  experience tumultuous shaking of the plane's fuselage, as well as hear loud popping sounds from outside of the plane. The Boeing 757's interior then began to split in Row 14, from what one passenger said was "the ceiling to the floor." Passengers also reported a drop in cabin pressure. Alarmed, they screamed for the flight attendants who came to check out the issue. Ultimately, the flight's captain was notified and the plane was rerouted back to San Francisco for an emergency landing.

As all of this was taking place, passenger James Wilson began to liveblog, posting photos and status updates to his Facebook account. One such photo is below:

Luckily he, along with the other 189 souls on board, landed safely. Unfortunately, American Airlines, who believe the issue was due to a broken air duct, made the passengers themselves call a customer service hotline to book new flights. How Delta of them—you'd think after they would have taken care of all that after making passengers believe they were going to die. But we're sure in the scheme of things, a phone call with a service rep isn't so bad.
