Authorities in Los Angeles have closed the case surrounding an incident at Mr. Chow in Beverly Hills that left Jamie Foxx injured during his birthday celebration last year.

According to NBC Los Angeles, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office confirmed this week that no charges will be filed, citing insufficient evidence.

The altercation took place on December 13, 2024, while the Academy Award winner was hosting a dinner with friends at the upscale restaurant.

According to police reports, officers were called around 10 p.m. on a possible assault with a deadly weapon. Investigators later clarified that the incident was not classified as an assault with a weapon, but rather, as a physical altercation between parties.

Foxx’s spokesperson said the actor and comedian was struck in the mouth after someone from another table threw a glass in his direction.

The 57-year-old was taken for medical treatment and required stitches. Sources also indicated that the Beverly Hills Police Department had identified and detained a person they believed to be responsible, though the case did not move forward.

In a statement to the outlet, the District Attorney’s Office confirmed the decision to decline charges, explaining that the evidence did not meet the threshold required for prosecution. Beverly Hills Police declined to comment further on the matter.

Details about what sparked the confrontation remain unclear. In December 2024, it was reported that someone from a separate party in an upstairs room allegedly pointed a laser that projected an obscene image onto Foxx’s table, leading to tensions that escalated into the glass-throwing incident.

Two days after the altercation, Foxx addressed the situation on Instagram, posting a message to reassure his fans. “Too blessed to be stressed,” he wrote, thanking supporters for checking in on him.

In a longer post, he added, “The devil is a lie. Can’t win here… thank you to everybody that pray and check on me… when your light is shining bright… they try to bring you darkness… but they don’t know that you’re built for it.”

The incident occurred just months after Foxx revealed publicly that he had suffered a stroke from a brain bleed the year before, a medical emergency that had previously been kept private. At the time, he credited his family for helping him through the ordeal.
