Chad Stahelski, the director behind the John Wick series, has a storied history when it comes to film industry. He worked on all three of the Matrix films as a stunt double for Keanu Reeves and as a stunt coordinator. Stahelski still has a good relationship when it comes to Matrix creators Lana and Lilly Wachowski, and in an interview with Yahoo, he let slip that the two have been working on a new movie in the series.

"I’m super happy that the Wachowskis are not just doing a Matrix, but they’re expanding what we all loved," Stahelski explained. "And if it’s anywhere near the level of what they’ve already done, it wouldn’t take more than a call to go, ‘Hey, we want you to be a stunt guy’ and I would probably go and get hit by a car." Previous reports indicated that Warner Bros/ were looking to reboot the franchise, and that the Wachowskis wouldn't be involved, but Stahelski insists that at least Lilly is working on it.

"I'm not sure of the overall, I'm not sure if Lana is," he said when asked if the two were directing the project. "If they wanted help, I would absolutely put down whatever I was doing to help them." Reeves has already indicated that he'd be down to return to the role of Neo, but only if the Wachowskis are involved. "They would have to write it and direct it," he told Yahoo in 2017. "People die, stories don't."
