Warner Bros. has slammed the brakes on The Batman production after Robert Pattinson has reportedly contracted the coronavirus.
"A member of The Batman production has tested positive for COVID-19 and is isolating in accordance with established protocols," a spokesperson for the studio said in a statement. "Filming is temporarily paused."
Vanity Fair reports that sources close to the film have indicated that Pattinson, who plays the titular caped crusader, was the person who tested positive for COVID-19.
Principal photography for the highly anticipated movie kicked off this January, although filming was suspended in March on account of the pandemic. Filming recently resumed in the U.K. with three months of material to shoot, with the studio still aiming for an October 2021 release date. It's unclear how long the temporary pause on production will last or what impact it will have on the schedule, but the studio has said it plans to wrap filming by the end of 2020.
The news comes less than two weeks after the first teaser for the film debuted at DC Fandome. Pattinson stars in the film alongside Zoë Kravitz, Jeffrey Wright, John Turturro, Andy Serkis, and Colin Farrell among others. Matt Reeves, who directed the second and third films in the modern Planet of the Apes franchise, is helming the project and has said that it will follow Bruce Wayne during his second year as Batman.
