James Gunn, the director behind the Guardians of the Galaxy films, has just apparently revealed the cast for his reboot of DC's Suicide Squad.
In a tweet that included a litany of big stars and James Gunn regulars, the director and writer said, "Don't get too attached."
The cast includes Margot Robbie, Joel Kinnaman, Jai Courtney, and Viola Davis returning from 2016's Suicide Squad, while the likes of John Cena, Pete Davidson, Michael Rooker, Idris Elba, Storm Reid, Peter Capaldi, and Nathan Fillion round out the impressive list of newcomers. As previously indicated by reports, fellow Marvel Cinematic Universe director Taika Waititi will also be involved in the film.
The Suicide Squad is set to hit theaters Aug. 6, 2021.
Gunn was previously ousted as director on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 after his old offensive tweets surfaced. In the weeks following the announcement, DC worked towards getting him on board for a revamped version of Suicide Squad, which performed well at the box office despite mostly negative reviews. He has since been reinstated as director, there's still no release date for Guardians 3 due to his commitment to the reboot.
"It was like the breakup of my marriage," Gunn said earlier this year in his first interview since rejoining the Marvel project. "I got divorced, and then had those conversations with my ex-wife: 'Let's get along as well as we possibly can and be kind to each other because we're both a large part of each other's lives.'"
