TeaMarrr Musical Pharmacist Lead

You probably know TeaMarrr’s name, just make sure you know how to spell it!

Boston-born and Los Angeles-based, the always-on-point TeaMarrr is all about self-expression—in whatever form she chooses.

Known as the “lil t’cup” on social media, TeaMarrr is a singer, style maven, and an all-around go-getter setting herself up to run the world. (We’re just here to make sure you hear her.) Early in her life, TeaMarrr knew she wasn’t made for the corporate world, because her mind only thrives in the land of creativity. And the first stop in that realm was music.

According to TeaMarrr, she is a musical pharmacist.

“People always come to me like… Thank you for that song, I needed it. Is this a pill?” she says, glammed from head to toe. “The way they[‘re] always like, Oh my God, you helped me get through this. I’m like, I’m the musical pharmacist.”

As TeaMarrr continues, she explains how her brand and the concept of healing people come together as the antidote—to heartbreak, stress, and everyday life traumas. “Tea is my brand. Tea is healing, just like medicine. So my music is the healing, whereas you are the cup.”

But for any true remedy to work, it needs the proper ingredients. Thankfully, this tea cup comes with all the raw, confident, bold, fiery spice that you need to soothe your soul. So much so that she doesn’t hold back when she communicates through her music.

“That’s the only place I can actually let [my] energy out,” the Haitian-American singer says fervently. “[If someone’s not doing their job], I can’t be like, Dude, you had one job. What is wrong [with you]? I can’t do that to a person, but I could do that in a song and that saves me. I’ve never been afraid to express myself. I think I’m more afraid to express myself now because of how it’s going to come off, but I’m like, No, I can do whatever here. Because everybody’s felt this way, whether it’s today [or] tomorrow.”

Keen on her reasoning, TeaMarrr says it’s important to be yourself and to speak up. “People say they missed out on a lot of opportunities because they were shy,” she adds.

But while her healing aura is impossible to ignore these days, it wasn’t so easy for her growing up—because kids are mean. TeaMarrr vividly remembers being bullied both in the classroom and on the playground at school as a kid. Her confidence wasn’t so strong back then, but those sandbox incidents are what pushed her to thrive.

“I got made fun of a lot. I was bullied a lot. They were wild to me when I was a kid. I would go home and cry. Really, actually cry,” the now roaring creative recalls. “I had a teacher, actually, that made a cassette tape, shout out Ms. Kirchen. She made a cassette tape front and back, [with] one song only: Christina Aguilera ‘I Am Beautiful.’ [She said], Play this over and over until you believe it, girl.”

So, it was Ms. Kirchen’s kindness coupled with her parents’ support that pushed TeaMarrr to live loudly, secure in herself, in every color possible. Because if you know anything about Tea, you know she loves her colors. In fact, that’s how she views the world the moment she steps out the house.

“I don’t know if I’m trying to, but sometimes I walk out the house and I try to imagine what color is around me,” TeaMarrr says with a smile. “The people that tend to look me in the eye or wave hello happen to be wearing that color… It’ll be little games [with color] I play on the street. Really, I’m just trying to just be happy to be here.”

According to TeaMarrr, she’s so passionate about colors because she believes in their therapeutic energy. “I’ve always been into colors. Colors emote a lot of therapy and energy and healing. It’s just something about the happiness,” she says with a glow. “But I think finding a spiritual meaning behind them, that started very recently. As a kid, it was always like, Yellow makes me happy, and then I later find out that yellow is a happy color. I’m like, Well then, little me was onto something when she said that.”

But to TeaMarrr, colors aren’t just about energy, they’re about a feeling. And she controls how she feels each day through her vibrant, daring, and oh-so-feminine style.

“I think I feel comfortable when I look sexy. My spirit’s like, This feels right,” she says confidently. “When I get beat, that’s that energy! I want my boyfriend to take me out; I want to show off; I want to change a few times. If I have a face beat, I’ll wear like five different outfits in the day.”

And while TeaMarrr’s concerts may not contain five outfit changes apiece, they do encapsulate that energy, as does her 2020 album Before I Spill Myself. So if you’re feeling blah about pop music lately, give TeaMarrr a listen. She just might be the antidote you were looking for.
