Idris Elba's Ready for a Woman to Play James Bond the Way You're Ready for Him to Play Bond

Sorry guys, Elba's still not going to be the next 007.

Remember 2015? It was a simpler time when a human Cheeto wasn’t our president and rumors were circulating that Idris Elba could be the next James Bond.

It took a couple years for those rumors to somewhat subside, but now it’s 2018 and we’re still hoping, just maybe, Elba would do it. Never mind the fact that, as Vanity Fair points out, he’s rejected the rumors multiple times because he's "too old" and already plays a handsome British detective on his show Luther. Perhaps to finally get people off his back, which would look great in a 007 tux, he told Variety that the next Bond should be played by a woman.

“Are we interested in having a Bond character other than being a male?” he posed when asked about the Bond franchise. “It could be a woman—could be a black woman, could be a white woman. But I think that character, everybody would like to see it have...do something different with it. Why not?”

Say goodbye to James Bond and hello to Jane Bond. No offense to Daniel Craig, but even he didn’t want to be agent 007 anymore. After Craig’s last Bond film comes out in 2019, the options are limitless. In her cover story with Complex, Quantico star Priyanka Chopra revealed she is up for the task. When it was suggested that she would make a great Bond Girl, the actress replied “I get that all the time. But fuck that—I wanna be Bond.”

If Chopra takes the famous lead role as agent 007, then maybe Elba could be her Bond Boy? Just throwing that into the universe.
