Gadget Gossip: 10 iPad 2 Rumors We Hope Are True

Complex says: The iPad 2 might welcome a new multi-core A5 processor based off the Cortex 9 CPU. Translation: faster speeds, the possibility of 1080p HD support, and dual graphics processing cores capable of supporting a Retina Display. Even though recent rumors of the iPhone 4's popular high-resolution display were shot down, everything else should check out. We hope.

Probability: Low

Complex says: New form factors mean lighter weights, easier portability, and more options for consumers. But as great as all that sounds, we don't think Apple has any interest in changing the iPad's dimensions. And all that stuff about a 7-inch tablet would only place it in the same category as the Samsung Galaxy Tab and other next-gen offerings. Steve Jobs don't play catch up.

receive a display with up to four times the resolution (2048x1536). Though some experts

claim the technology doesn’t even exist and that no content has been created to support the groundbreaking output. If the resolution increase from the iPhone 3GS to the iPhone 4 serves as an example of Apple's innovative capability, we're betting lighting strikes twice. It may not be the huge increase we're hoping for, but we can see the iPad 2 getting an incremental bump.

if there's talk about iLife apps not being tablet-ready? The Galaxy Tab experienced the same issues with Froyo (Android 2.2) during its launch as well. The only difference here is Apple's iOS is far more cleaner and polished than Google's. And with the addition of a stronger processor and more storage, we can possibly look forward to editing photos and creating films without resorting to our MacBook.

Complex says: That fact that Apple offers three models (16GB, 32GB, and 64GB) shows it's all about providing consumers with options. The addition of an SD card slot would not only be a substitute for memory back-up, but would eliminate the hassle of transferring files via synching. Besides, every new Apple portable (and iMac) sports an SD slot. Here's hoping that Engadget's screenshot wasn't bogus.

Complex says: We'll keep it 100. The iPad speakers aren't as good as they could be. Apple knows there's always room for improvement and an enhanced audio output would be an inexpensive fix that could make a huge difference in sound quality.

LTE service isn’t rolling out till 2012, Verizon’s iPhone 4 won’t be

4G-compatible, and the high-speed connection is still limited in certain parts of the

country. So while surfing the web at a network speed 10 times faster than 3G would be a godsend for us, we don't see Apple banking on a market that’s still in its

testing phase.

Complex says: Watching Netflix videos in landscape mode as the iPad 2 stays docked through an additional side port would be dope. But Apple is all about the combination of aesthetics and functionality. Adding a second port would disrupt the smooth lines and minimal industrial design ethos of Apple's current line-up.

Complex says: The biggest rumor revolves around Apple making an official announcement as part of a huge Feb. 9 event. If you ask us, the MacWorld Expo serves as a better platform to introduce the iPad 2. And taking into account the fact that the first iPad was launched on April 3 of last year, it's only fitting that its successor receive an April 2011 release date.
