Joker has continually toppled box office expectations, and now the Joaquin Phoenix-starring comic book thriller has another title to boast about. After becoming the highest-grossing R-rated film of all-time, Forbes has reported that Joker is now also the most profitable comic book movie ever.
Produced on a comparatively modest budget of $62.5 million, Joker will reach a worldwide total gross of $957 million by the end of Friday. That's approximately 15.3 times its production budget, meaning it has now topped Jim Carrey's The Mask, which grossed $351 million on a $23 million budget. In terms of budget versus worldwide gross, Joker sits top of the pile when it comes to comic book films.
There are other close contenders, however. Venom grossed $854 million on a $90 million budget, Tim Burton's Batman took in $411 million on $35 million, while Deadpool took in $783 million against a budget of $58 million.
Impressively, Joker has grossed all this without ever making it to the China, which has rapidly become one of the biggest film markets in the world. It's also worth noting that Joker is expected to eclipse the $1 billion gross mark in the near future, making it the first R-rated movie to ever do so.
