UPDATED 7/5, 9:30 a.m. ET: Not only did Spider-Man: Far From Home set a new record for a Tuesday opening at the domestic box office, it almost broke the record for the best July 4 performance, too. The latest Spidey movie took in an estimated $25.1 million on the holiday, bringing the sequel's current domestic take to $91.5 million so far Deadline reports. The current record for best Independence Day at the box office still belongs to Transformers, which took in $29 million back in 2007.

It's now expected that Spider-Man: Far From Home could clear the $125 million mark by the end of Friday or Saturday, bringing it closer to the $170-$190 million gross it's been estimated to hit.

Unlike a lot of superhero movies, Spider-Man: Far From Home launched on a Tuesday in the lead-up to the 4th of July weekend. Typically speaking, blockbusters tend to arrive on Thursdays and Fridays in order to attract weekend crowds while the iron's hot. Due to the timing of the new Marvel flick, Far From Home has now set a record as the most successful Tuesday opening at the domestic box office of all-time.

The latest Spider-Man hit theaters on Tuesday, July 2, bringing in a record-setting $39.3 million on opening day. Not only does that make the highest Tuesday gross overall for any movie in the U.S. (The Force Awakens previously held the record on its first Tuesday with $37.4 million). Funnily enough, as The Hollywood Reporter noted, the previous record holder for a Tuesday opening was the Andrew Garfield-starring The Amazing Spider-Man, which took in $35 million back in July 2012.

Sony has estimated that Far From Home will bring in $125 million in its first days of release, while box office analysts have indicated it could take more than $150 million. As Variety reports, the Spidey movie performed very well on its second day, too, taking in $27 million. International numbers have yet to come in outside of China, where it has grossed over $95 million since it premiered on June 28.
