Anthony Bourdain lived more than his fair share of lives before passing last year. As such, he became an inspiration for food-lovers, professional chefs, and travelers alike, many of whom regard his writing, television shows, and candid interviews as sacred text. On what would have been his 63rd birthday, Bourdain fans are sharing their favorite quotes, bits of advice, and clips from his outsized life to celebrate him.

Many fans shared Bourdain's constant advocacy for traveling as a means toward the end of becoming a better person.

Bourdain also believed that a lot of good work could be done over a dinner table. He frequently said that eating other people's food alongside them was a great way to get started in knowing them better.
