Game of Throneshad a little fun with a certain Ed Sheeran memory in its season 8 premiere Sunday night. In fact, the fate of the character Sheeran portrayed in a divisive cameo from a previous episode was casually tossed out during a jovial brothel chat, followed by an assessment of the dialogue from Sheeran himself.

I'm wondering if the ginger Lannister soldier “Eddie” who we're told had his face (and eyelids!) burned off by a dragon during that Bronn scene is a reference to this guy #gameofthrones #EdSheeran pic.twitter.com/77XShUDXqN

The "Winterfell" scene in question sees Bronn learning of an "Eddie" and his eyebrowlessness amidst a conversation with three women at the brothel. Per the characters' recollections, "the ginger" returned from battle with his "face burned right off' and a fresh lack of eyebrows.

In a quick Instagram Story update following the episode's premiere, Sheeran thanked the Thrones team and shared his interpretation of those comments. According to Sheeran, this means his character—as Sheeran basically predicted back in September—"was a survivor."

Sheeran's Thrones cameo surprised fans in 2017, ultimately initiating a brief but fiery debate about the cameo's very existence that included some words of defense from director Jeremy Podeswa. Speaking with Variety in July of that year shortly after the Sheeran-featuring episode premiered, Podeswa said the singer was a "team player" while shooting. "He is one of the nicest guys in the world, and he really is one of the guys," Podeswa said.
