Sony Sets Release Dates for 2 Spider-Man Universe Movies

The production studio is likely securing dates for 'Morbius' and 'Venom 2.'

Sony Pictures is securing two dates for untitled 2020 releases. According to Variety, Spider-Man is getting two new movies added to its piece of the Marvel universe.  

One of the untitled Spider-Man spinoffs will hit theaters on July 10, 2020, with a sequel coming out on Oct. 2. The studio didn’t share any other specifics, but it’s highly likely the first release is Morbiusstarring Jared Leto

Production on Morbius looks to have kicked off with a screenplay by Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama. The character was created by writer Roy Thomas and artist Gil Kane in 1971. The villain first appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man #101 as a scientist who unsuccessfully tried to cure himself of a blood disease, leading to tragic vampiric results.  

The second film slated for release could very well be the sequel to Tom Hardy’s Venom, which came out in theaters last month. Despite its poor critical reviews, the film pulled a huge $80 million debut and hit the No. 1 spot at the box office. In the sequel, Hardy will return as journalist Eddie Brock sharing his body with a parasitic alien.  

Before these two movies hit the big screen, Sony already has a few other Spider-verse additions coming out in 2019.Silver & Blackis going to hit theaters Feb. 8, 2019, and Spider-Man: Far From Home comes out on July 5.
