Nick Fury who? Samuel L. Jackson is Mr. Glass in his later superhuman anti-hero offering directed by M. Night Shyamalan. The second trailer for Glass is out now, somewhat revealing the plot of the forthcoming thriller that combines the worlds of 2000’s Unbreakable and 2016’s Split.

The film centers around David Dunn (Bruce Willis), the Beast (James McAvoy), and Mr. Glass, who we see locked up in some sort of psychiatric prison. In this combo sequel, Dr. Ellie Staple (Sarah Paulson) attempts to cure all three characters of a "disorder" where they believe they have superhuman capabilities. But after overcoming regular sedation used to keep him at bay, Glass employs the Beast within McAvoy to fulfill his master plot of unveiling a world of super-powered villains and heroes.

It’s unclear from the trailer if that’s the true end goal here or if Glass’ motivation lies somewhere deeper. In response to the chaos Glass unleashes, Dunn attempts to rein in the Beast, though it looks like he’s got quite the battle ahead of him. Perhaps Glass’ real master plan is forcing Dunn to take on a heroic role in this new thriller. Anya Taylor-Joy from Split is also reprising her role as Casey Cooke, the only survivor of the Beast.

At the end of Split, which first introduced McAvoy as the Beast aka Kevin Wendell Crumb, Shyamalan surprised audiences by revealing its shared universe with his fan-favorite Unbreakable. He quickly put together this sequel, taking the first trailer to San Diego Comic-Con this summer.

Glass will debut in theaters on Jan. 19, 2019.
