'Incredibles 2' Becomes First Animated Film to Earn Over $600 Million

'Incredibles 2' made over $600 million in the domestic box office making it the first animated film ever to do so. It's also the highest grossing animated film in the U.S.

Incredibles 2 is officially the first animated film to hit the $600 million mark.

The latest achievement only adds to the long list of milestones made by the animated sequel. According to Box Office Mojo, the film became the highest grossing animated film a few weeks ago when it topped Finding Dory which previously held the No. 1 spot with $486.3 million. This feat also makes it the fifth highest grossing Disney film ever after Star Wars: The Force Awakens ($936.7 million), Black Panther ($700.1 million), Avengers: Infinity War ($678.8 million), and Star Wars: The Last Jedi ($620.2 million).

As for the global box office, Incredibles 2 raked in $1.16 billion. Although this puts it in the second spot of animated films above Minions, which made $1.15 million in the global box office mark, it still has a little way to go to top Disney's major animated hit, Frozen. The 2013 film is the highest earning animated film in the global box office with $1.27 billion.

Incredibles 2 isn't the only film celebrating a historic moment though. Crazy Rich Asians debuted as No. 1 in the box office with $34 million and continued to claim that spot for the following two weeks—which includes this weekend.

Incredibles 2 opened in theaters on June 15 but is back in theaters for Labor Day which contributed to its latest boost in the box office. Well, that and the fact that millennials are uber-nostalgic.
