On Wednesday (July 4), we will finally be able to see where this whole Purge night started. While its the fourth film in the series, The First Purge takes us 10 years before the events of the first film, to the very first Purge. The things that have become staples in the series aren't even a thing yet, and judging by the above exclusive clip, we get an intriguing, yet confusing, look at how America got this insane holiday started.
The brief clip finds a man being instructed by a woman who seems to be representing the New Founding Father of America (a.k.a. the NFFA), who are the ones who put the Purge into effect in the first place. The man in question says that he is very angry, and is willing to release his anger on Purge night. He's handed the official flower of the Purge night, and some weird contacts that will document the wearer's actions during Purge night. Because this is a theory being tested, one has to assume that these lenses will be used specifically for scientific purposes... or just outright snuff film insanity, right?
Either way, this is an eerie, clinical look at the calm before the maniacal storm. Catch Blumhouse's The First Purge in theaters July 4.
