A new trailer for Venom, Sony's latest addition to the expanding Spider-Man universe, has arrived. Tom Hardy plays the title character, journalist Eddie Brock, who stumbles upon a suspicious lab led by actor Riz Ahmed that alters his life forever. Check out the new trailer above.
In the trailer, Brock becomes the latest victim of the black symbiote, but we learn Ahmed’s character has been unleashing these extraterrestrials onto other average folk, creating a new army of monsters. Brock struggles to maintain control of his body, but by the end of the trailer the long-tongued monster completely takes over. When a tormented bystander asks the creature what it is, Venom’s creepy face recedes to show Brock still surviving underneath as they declare, “We are Venom.”
Venom hits theaters Oct. 5, two months before the animated Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse arrives. Tom Holland's Spidey will not appear, as Sony attempts to launch a series of movies focused on villains and peripheral characters. Recently, the company revealed Jared Leto would join those ranks in his own Morbius spinoff.
Originally billed as one of Spider-Man's main nemeses, Marvel Comics introduced Venom in 1984's The Amazing Spider-Man #252. The character made his film debut in Spider-Man 3, played by Topher Grace.
In addition to Ahmed and Hardy, the film also stars Michelle Williams, Jenny Slate, and Woody Harrelson.
