Dave Chappelle recently jumped to the defense of fellow comedian Michelle Wolf, who took the the podium at Saturday night's White House Correspondence Dinner to poke fun at Donald Trump, his administration, and, most controversially, White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders. There has been swift backlash to her jokes, with some critics even going so far as saying she body-shamed Sanders in her routine.
Chappelle recently shared how "beautiful" he thought Wolf's routine was, despite the criticism. "I don’t know who those people think they are that she can’t say that to them because they offend people all the time," he said on PBS NewsHour. "For many people, it’s cathartic to watch that woman speak truth to power like that."
Chappelle is no stranger to edgy political jokes that, for some, cross the line. "I know how hard it is to do what she did in front of that lame ass crowd...and I think she nailed it," he said. "I didn't see her pander once."
