During the season premiere of The Bachelorette on Monday, audiences were introduced to the 28 men vying for Becca Kufrin’s heart. The group included a venture capitalist, a fitness coach, a professional football player, and a medical sales rep with a taste for wildly offensive social media posts. The latter individual is named Garrett Yrigoyen, a 29-year-old California native who is also the apparent frontrunner on the popular dating show.
Shortly after the premiere of season 14, the Huffington Post published a story about Yrigoyen’s controversial social media history. The publication referred to a series of tweets by former Bachelor contestant Ashley Spivey, who shared screenshots of Yrigoyen’s “liked” posts from conservative and conspiracy theory accounts. Some of these posts claimed Parkland shooting survivor David Hogg was a crisis actor, while others mocked Colin Kaepernick, the transgender community, liberal women, and undocumented immigrants.
According to the Huffington Post, Yrigoyen’s questionable social media activity was first pointed out by the since-deleted Instagram account @imwatchingyuuo last Wednesday. The publication confirmed it has also “independently found other posts that Yrigoyen’s account had liked from the same Merica Supply Co. Instagram page.”
The Huffington Post reports Yrigoyen’s Instagram account, @garrett_yrigs12, was made private May 24 and has since been deleted. Entertainment writer Reality Steve claims Yrigoyen has returned to Instagram under the user name @gy_yrigoyen.
