Sony's Next Marvel Film Will Feature Silver Sable and Black Cat

There won't be any crossover with Marvel's Spider-Man, though.

While fans eagerly await the release of Venom starring Tom Hardy, another film is also in the works from Sony that ties into its Spider-Man universe. Protagonists Silver Sable and Black Cat will be the title characters in Silver and Black.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the film is set to be directed by Gina-Prince Bythewood (pictured above) and has a script penned by Lindsey Beer and Geneva Robertson-Dworet. For those unfamiliar with the slightly lesser known characters from the Spider-Man Universe, Silver Sable is a mercenary and runs a company who hunts war criminals. Black Cat is a burglar-turned-hero.

Beer and Robertson-Dworet have a lot of experience between them. Beer has previously worked on scripts for the Transformers series, Godzilla vs. Kong, and Quentin Tarantino's Star Trek. Robertson-Dworet worked on the upcoming Tomb Raider film, as well as Captain Marvel.

While casting and filming have not even begun for Silver and Black, one thing is guaranteed: Despite including heroes from the world of Spidey, there will more than likely be no type of crossovers or tie-ins to Marvel's current Spider-Man franchise featuring Tom Holland. As previously reported, the upcoming Marvel films by Sony will be a part of their own standalone universe with no tie-ins to the MCU. Instead, Sony will continue to build onto its own Spidey world with spinoffs like the aforementioned Venom film and the upcoming Silver and Black. Marvel will not receive any profits from Sony's Spider-Man films going forward either.

Silver and Black is currently slated for a theatrical release date of Feb. 8, 2019.
