Starz and Lionsgate have apparently teamed up to bring the John Wick franchise to TV. Currently titled, The Continental, the television adaptation will center around the mysterious and exclusive hotel for assassins seeking refuge. Showrunner Chris Collins is said to be writing the series and producing alongside Keanu Reeves as well as John Wick co-directors Basil Iwanyk and David Leitch, and screenwriter Derek Kolstad.
It seems that 2018 will be continuing along the reboot trend, and apparently The Matrix isn't the only Keanu-related project that will be getting some new life. The new series is said to include “thunderous fight sequences and intensely staged shootouts between professional assassins and their targets," Collider reports, so expect all the intensity and high adrenaline of the movies but brought to the small screen.
The hype of director Chad Stahelski's John Wick: Chapter 2 had led to talks of a third installment well before the film's successful release, and now, Stahelski, with support from Starz and Lionsgate, will try to recreate that success with The Continental. Stahelski will be directing the series premiere, reports Variety. The president of Starz has asserted that the television series will co-exist with the movies, so we're hoping that Reeves will be making some onscreen cameos as well as providing his expertise behind the scenes.
Production will begin this year, but a premiere date has yet to be announced so we can probably expect the action series sometime in 2019.
