Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson said it best: "Know your role, and shut your mouth." It's a harsh statement, but if Iron Fist actor Finn Jones kept this quote in mind, it would've saved him from encountering a whole lot of problems this past weekend.
On Sunday, Jones shared the following speech from Rogue One: A Star Wars Story actor Riz Ahmed where Ahmed addressed the importance of representation in film.
While it is vital that Ahmed's words get as much attention as possible, Jones probably shouldn't be the one chiming in on the conversation of diversity in Hollywood. In the upcoming Netflix series Iron Fist, Finn plays Danny Rand, a white character who studies martial arts only to become better than his peers of Asian descent.
Jones was forced into defending the show, calling it perhaps the most diverse of the trio of shows (Iron Fist, Jessica Jones, and Luke Cage) that make up Marvel's Defenders, and claiming it "incorporates and celebrates actors from all different backgrounds."
Jones pointed out that the show confronts the issues surrounding Danny Rand's character, and asked people to give Iron Fist a chance. However, that ship may have sailed when the show went the predictable route, instead of, you know, embracing a more diverse approach.
Jones briefly deleted his Twitter account before starting it back up.
