We are easily in the golden age of TV; from Game of Thrones to Orange is The New Black, we're literally spoilt for choice. So in that respect, it's pretty hard to determine what is the best TV show ever, however Rolling Stone's recent '100 Greatest TV Shows of All Time' list has determined that crime drama The Sopranos is the best TV show ever.

While there may be those who disagree with the choice, we can honestly say that David Chase's classic mob serial is a solid pick for the top spot. Since its inception in 1999, and throughout six outstanding seasons, it engrossed audiences in the life of New Jersey mob boss Tony Soprano, played by the late great James Gandolfini.

Considering you have shows like the aforementioned GoT, Mad Men, The Wire and The Simpsons, The Sopranos getting the top spot is a testament to how influential the show has been through its writing, acting and directing. Rolling Stone justified their reason, saying:

"The crime saga that cut the history of TV in two, kicking off a golden age when suddenly anything seemed possible. With The Sopranos, David Chase smashed all the rules about how much you could get away with on the small screen. And he created an immortal American antihero in James Gandolfini's New Jersey Mob boss, Tony Soprano, presiding over a crew of gangsters who also double as damaged husbands and dads, men trying to live with their murderous secrets and dark memories. As the late, great Gandolfini told Rolling Stone in 2001, "I heard David Chase say one time that it's about people who lie to themselves, as we all do. Lying to ourselves on a daily basis and the mess it creates.""
