There are certain unequivocal truths about gaming culture that leave little up for debate. For one, people blame video games for a lot of silly things, most of which are neither necessary nor justified. Another is that video game culture, for better or worse, sees its fair share of myths about products (in part, thanks to the hype pre- and post-release). But there's another thing about gamers specifically that even the most avid players among us are guilty of on occasion: those little white lies we tell ourselves while gaming.

No stranger to the culture, Gameranx rounded up their picks of the most frequently whispered low-key fibs they hear while playing, and at least a few of them will likely sound familiar—the inflation of a player's K/D ratio, as one example. Another? Blaming a fictional lag time for losing a life. While understandable, it's sort of like blaming traffic when you're already running late. It sounds nice and may make you feel better, but it ultimately changes nothing and is basically a lie. No one's buying it.

Lastly—and who among us can truly say we haven't said this before?—you probably cannot "beat anyone" at your favorite game. Most of the time that kind of ego fluffing is just a lot of hyperbolic B.S. You and I both know there's probably someone out there who could take you on—there's a whole wide world of gamers.

But these are just a couple of many. Check out the full list above, and remember: at the end of the day, it's just a game.
