A Paris preschool teacher admitted to fabricating a story in which an ISIS terrorist stabbed him, according to prosecutors. The fake attack led authorities to open an investigation, still on high alert since the Paris attacks last month, on a manhunt for the alleged attacker.

The 45-year-old teacher at the Jean-Perrin preschool, who authorities haven't identified, alleged the attack happened in an empty classroom in the Aubervilliers suburb. He had said a man stabbed him with a box cutter Monday at 07:10 (06:10 GMT) while shouting "This is for Daesh [Islamic State]. It's a warning." Afterwards he was taken to the hospital for wounds in his neck and side. Classes at Jean-Perrin were canceled for the rest of the day after the fake attack.

Mayor of Aubervilliers Pascal Beaudet said it was still unknown why the teacher of 20 years lied. The teacher was reportedly "appreciated" by Jean-Perrin parents.

The made up attack follows last month's Dar-al-Islam, ISIS' French-language magazine, which instructed followers to kill France's teachers for being "enemies of Allah" because they taught secularism.
