Car Crash Near Miss Universe Pageant in Las Vegas Leaves Dozens Injured (UPDATE)

UPDATE (12/21/15 3:20 p.m.):

Police have since identified the woman responsible for Sunday's incident as 24-year-old Oregon resident Lakeisha Holloway. BBCreports that the number of people injured are 36, three of whom remain in critical condition. The deceased victim has since been identified by the Clark County Coroner as 32-year-old Jessica Valenzuela of Buckeye, Arizona. She was reportedly vacationing with her husband. 

"District Attorney Steve Wolfson said Ms Holloway would initially be charged with murder," reports BBC, "adding that charges of attempted murder, child abuse and leaving the scene of an accident would probably follow."

UPDATE (12/21/15 10:17 a.m.):

Last night's incident has left as many as 31 people injured and 1 dead, according to multiple reports. A woman in her 20s is now in police custody and is undergoing tests for alcohol and controlled substances, according to KTLA. They add that a 3-year-old found in the woman's car was unharmed.

Authorities are reportedly calling the incident "intentional," claiming that she drove drove on the sidewalk multiple times and continued hitting people with her vehicle. While the investigation is ongoing, Deputy Chief Zimmerman of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said in a statement, "This was not an act of terrorism. Initial investigation appears this was intentional."

Governor Brian Sandoval has also released a statement regarding the incident. Per News 3:

“I have spoken with Sheriff Joe Lombardo and will remain in contact with him as this incident continues to evolve and additional information is released. The state stands ready to help and will provide any assistance needed to ensure the safety of our visitors and residents,” said Governor Brian Sandoval. “Kathleen and I extend our deepest sympathies to all who are affected by this shocking and tragic event. Additionally, I would like to thank the first responders and the medical professionals who are caring for the victims this evening.”

A car crash has reportedly injured as many as a dozen pedestrians near the venue of tonight's Miss Universe pageant. The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department has ordered anyone near S. Las Vegas Blvd. to "please avoid the area" pending an investigation into the incident.

Multiple reports have stated that the vehicle reportedly ran onto the curb, striking a group of pedestrians outside of the Paris Las Vegas Hotel. As many as a dozen injuries have been reported by the press, and News 3's Gerard Ramalho reports police sources estimate as many as 30 injuries and 3 deaths.
