Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clintonsquared off in the immediate wake of a brief DNC scandal on Saturday, providing the nation a fair alternative to just going to see Star Wars: The Force Awakens again. While a lot of attention was understandably paid to Clinton’s assessment that Donald Trump is becoming “the best ISIS recruiter,” Sanders was quietly breaking a record previously held by President Barack Obama.

Sanders’ campaign has now received more contributions than any other presidential candidate at this point in any previous White House bid, according to a campaign-issued release. Sanders has now garnered more than 2.3 million contributions, breaking Obama’s previous record of 2,209,636 donations during his re-election campaign. The milestone, reportedly reached during Saturday’s debate, included an average contribution size of “below $25.”

However, it's worth noting that Sanders crushing an Obama fundraising is more significant than a simple financial victory. In fact, Sanders' current fundraising pace means Clinton may now be beaten in the final fundraising quarter of the year, the New York Times reports. This would mark a noticeable boost from the previous quarter, in which Sanders pulled $26 million against Clinton’s $28 million.
