Sean Penn is not sorry for referring to Mexican director Alejandro Iñárritu by asking "Who gave this son of a bitch his green card?" before presenting the Best Picture Oscar to Birdman last month.

And if you were offended by it, Penn had some thoughts about that while promoting his new movie The Gunman this week, The Associated Press reports

"I'm always surprised by flagrant stupidity. I keep having more hope," Penn said. "I have absolutely no apologies. In fact, I have a big fuck you for every...anybody who is so stupid not to have gotten the irony when you've got a country that is so xenophobic," he said. "If they had their way, you wouldn't have great filmmakers like Alejandro working in this country. Thank god we do."

Although some people were outraged by Penn's joke, Iñárritu himself had no problem with it, saying "I found it hilarious. Sean and I have that kind of brutal [relationship] where only true friendship can survive," after the ceremony.
