We’ve been hearing a lot about police oppression lately, and with good reason. But if the new film CHAPPiE is any indication, it may only get worse from here.

The new film from director Neill Blomkamp (Elysium, District 9) takes place in the near future, where crime is patrolled by a police force that is both mechanized and downright oppressive. Tensions have become high, and citizens are starting to fight back.

When one police robot, CHAPPiE, is stolen and reprogrammed, he becomes the first robot with the ability to think and feel for himself. But while this makes him more sympathetic to the plight of the citizens, it also makes him a target of destructive forces that view CHAPPiE as a threat to maintaining the status quo.

CHAPPiE features an all-star cast that includes Sharlto Copley (who worked with Blomkamp on both Elysium and District 9), Hugh Jackman, Sigourney Weaver, and Dev Patel (Slumdog Millionaire). You can check out exclusive clips by visiting the film’s YouTube page, and keep it up with it on Facebook as well. One thing’s for sure: this is definitely the badass robot you’re looking for, so go show him some love by seeing Chappie today
