When will folks learn?

A high school counselor in Pennsylvania could possibly lose her job due to a reckless Facebook post about Michael Brown and Eric Garner protesters in the Philadelphia area. When are people going to grasp the fact that social media irresponsibility can ruin you?

A group of demonstrators organized a "die-in" outside of Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia on Sunday, where the Philadelphia Eagles played the Seattle Seahawks. Marykate Blankenburg, a guidance counselor at Central Bucks High School West, posted the following message: "If my child cannot get to the Eagles game due to protesters, I will personally SHOOT every one of them. You've been warned idiots!!" Sensitivity at its finest.

When the call came for her job (and, more specifically, her head), the 37-year-old claimed that her child "might have gotten a hold of [her] iPad" while she taught Sunday school. Unsatisfied with that answer, the Central Bucks School District elected to conduct their own investigation, as Superintendent David Weitzel explained on Monday:

I learned Sunday afternoon of a social media posting of a threatening, violent message allegedly written under the name of MaryKate Blankenburg, a school guidance counselor at Central Bucks High School West. Responding with urgency and concern, we immediately began an investigation, including verification of the source of the post, and we will take appropriate action once we learn all of the facts. I also notified the District Attorney's Office on Sunday and we are working with them as they investigate this incident. The content of the post does not in any way reflect the beliefs or values of the Central Bucks School District.

Blankenburg has been placed on administrative leave, giving her plenty of time to play around with Facebook on her iPad.
