If you thought last year's Oxford Word of the Year choice was ridiculous, you better sit down and grab your e-cig. Hot on the heels of "selfie" being chosen as the most important word of 2013, the Oxford University Press has decided that this year's word is... "vape." Yep, the act of smoking an e-cigarette has been deemed the most iconic word of 2014.
In true underdog fashion, "vape" beat out fan favorites like "bae" and "normcore" to claim the title, a title that the OUP, which publishes the Oxford English Dictionary, said would be taken in a more serious direction. Mission probably not accomplished.
As for next year's early frontrunner? If the pattern continues, we're going to guess that it will be "fleek."
