Officials say the Nigerian government has reached an agreement with Boko Haram that will free the hundreds of young women kidnapped by the extremist group in the spring

According to BBC News, military official Alex Badeh revealed the details of the cease-fire:

Air Chief Marshal Badeh revealed the truce at the close of a three-day security meeting between Nigeria and Cameroon. He said Nigerian soldiers would comply with the agreement.

Nigerian presidential aide Hassan Tukur told BBC Focus on Africa that the agreement was sealed after a month of negotiations, mediated by Chad.

As part of the talks, a government delegation twice met representatives of the Islamist group.

Voice of America adds that the girls will reportedly be released in Chad on Monday. Presidential aide Hassan Turkur insisted that Boko Haram "assured [them that] they have the girls and they will release them," reinforcing his "cautious [optimism]."

However, BBC News noted that Boko Haram has yet to publicly address the matter.
