We're not suggesting that Hollywood star George Clooney is responsible for leaking those celebrity photos, we're just saying that if you were about to announce a movie about phone hacking, a good time to do it would be right after the most massive celebrity hacking scandal of all time

Conspiracy theorists, run wild with that one. Back here in the real world, it was just announced that Clooney will direct an upcoming film adaptation of the book Hack Attack: The Inside Story of How the Truth Caught Up With Rupert Murdoch.

That book, written by British reporter Nick Davies, is actually about a completely different hacking scandal you may remember going down at The News of the World, the now-defunct London newspaper owned by media billionaire Rupert Murdoch

Hack Attack recounts Davies' reporting for The Guardian, which revealed how common phone hacking had become for the journalists at News of the World in an effort to get bigger and bigger scoops.

"This has all the elements — lying, corruption, blackmail — at the highest levels of government by the biggest newspaper in London. And the fact that it’s true is the best part," Clooney said in a statement.

Clooney is no rookie to the directing game. He was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Director for 2005's Good Night, and Good Luck.
