In the last few hours, Lizard Squad, the hacking group claiming responsibility for DDoS attacks (overloading websites until they crash) on the Playstation Network and Xbox Live over the weekend, have seemingly attacked the network again. The group tweeted a semi-cryptic threat to Sony saying “So Sony, I heard you like brackets, and you know what rhymes with brackets?” before sending another taunting tweet asking Sony how much they paid Prolexic, the company who are supposed to protect their servers from DDoS attacks. Quite soon after the tweets Sony Europe tweeted that they were having connectivity issues.

Lizard Squad has claimed a number distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks over the last few days. The Playstation network (PSN) went down in North America on Sunday, a day before they were scheduled to go offline for maintenance. Lizard Squad took to twitter to claim the attack.

Later, they tweeted bomb-threats for a plane carrying Playstation Online Entertainment President John Smedley, including a picture of an e-ticket for the flight and a tweet directed at Smedley linking a video of the 9/11 attacks overlaid with audio from the game Counterstrike. The tweet read “Terrorists Win”. The flight, destined for San Diego, was then diverted to Phoenix.

Lizard Squad then tweeted “We hear there are some Xbox Live issues, sorry :P”. Indeed, at the time of publication Xbox Live is still seeing disrupted service.

The group have also claimed an attack on Twitch and the Vatican’s website. Yesterday they asserted to have attacked and disrupted Battle.net–the online network for games including Dota 2. This morning they threatened Tumblr and then retweeted people saying they couldn’t get Tumblr to load. Downrightnow.com showed Tumblr having “widespread service disruption” around the time of the tweet.

The FBI is currently involved in tracking down the group, mainly due to the grounding of Smedley’s flight. Lizard Squad have acted unperturbed with the news, tweeting “My name is Brian Willson, I'm from Las Vegas NV. You think I'm scared of the FBI?”
