Only the most passionate and informed of horror movie fans even knows that The Last Exorcism Part II-the unnecessary sequel to the successful and fairly creepy 2010 found-footage movie-opened in theaters in early March. And surely not one of them is happy about that knowledge.
Abandoning the first-person POV aesthetic, The Last Exorcism Part II instantly establishes itself as an all-around familiar affair, offering nothing creative to the demonic possession sub-genre. Returning star, and impressive contortionist, Ashley Bell does her best to inject some dignity into this bland and silly misfire, but her efforts are for naught. She's powerless against a moronic script that surrounds her with a love interest who might as well be a robot, hallucinations of her dead father (who has facial hair here, even though he was clean shaven while dying in the first movie), and awful CGI blazes during the film's Firestarter-esque finale. -Matt Barone
