Okkervil River, the Austin bred indie rockers have releases a online video game companion to their new album The Silver Gymnasium. The browser-based game takes players on an 8-bit adventure that pays homage to video games of the 1980s such as Maniac Mansion, King's Quest, and Leisure Suit Larry. It also features 8-bit chip tune versions of songs from the new album.
Players who complete the game will win a special code to download an EP created by Okkervil River front man, Will Sheff, featuring expanded 8-bit mixes of The Silver Gymnasium and other songs used in the game. Additionally Will Sheff is hosting an Ask Me Anything on Reddit today at 3pm ET.
Play The Silver Gymnasium here and check out the Reddit AMA here.
