There's been no official word on whether or not Dan Harmon is returning to Community in some capacity for its upcoming fifth season, but that hasn't stopped fans from getting their hopes up. The rumor originated from a post at a site called Hollywookiee, which stated that, in a Harmontown podcast, Harmon stated that he had been asked back to the series to serve as an executive producer—since then, however, apart from this Tumblr post featuring Harmon maybe saying that the deal may happen, there's been no other news.
Until now, kind of. In a series of tweets last night, Harmon both confirmed and dispelled the rumors, and also said that he was "#drunk"—which leads us to believe that he was really just messing with Community fans. The tweets, below:

Returning to Community, Day One: Hiring of directors hindered by an apparent promise from Sony to Jason Alexander. My deal: not yet closed.— Dan Harmon (@danharmon) June 1, 2013
Sorry about that. There must have been a miscommunication.Season 5 will be directed by whoever the fuck.Sorry!Sorry! #WindyBoys— Dan Harmon (@danharmon) June 1, 2013
So, basically, we still don't have a clue what is going on.
Harmon has now tweeted that he is officially returning, and that we can thank Community star Joel McHale. Rejoice!
